There is nothing like this is the world, this Frank Zappa-produced extravaganza remains a classic of lyrical malarkey. Accompanied by his finest ever Magic Band, Captain Beefheart entered the recording studio (actually a rented house) with a few ideas for songs. What came out is still to this day, quite astonishing. Ornette Coleman wildness and guitars thrashing in tune but deliberately off key. At times, it was alleged, Beefheart’s mum sent them food parcels.
