Gomez formed in 1996 in Southport, Merseyside, England. The band released its debut album to wide acclaim in 1998, after Hut Records won the hot battle to sign the band and it went on to win the Mercury Music Prize that year. Hot off the press, the follow-up Liquid Skin was released in 1999 and it made the Billboard Heatseekers chart. A succession of critically acclaimed albums and a relentless touring schedule followed this initial success. A multi-dimensional band, its members share song writing and singing duties, and regularly swap instruments. This eclectic, intelligent indie rock draws from wide-ranging influences, such as blues, folk, psychedelic and progressive rock, jazz and electronic dance music.
