The last official Experience band contained contributions from both Traffic and Jefferson Airplane members, and presented an unrivalled collection of songs, including a brilliant rendition of Bob Dylan’s ‘All Along The Watchtower’, an interpretation that Dylan was later to adopt live. ‘Crosstown Traffic’, ‘Gypsy Eyes’, and ‘Burning Of The Midnight Lamp’, as well as the posthumous number one, ‘Voodoo Child (Slight Return)’. This and the brilliant improvisation (with Steve Winwood, Jack Casady) showed an incredible clarity in Jimi Hendrix’s musical thinking. His vision had already moved beyond the musical confines of the trio. A rich and still somehow contemporary record.
