This highly acclaimed Manchester, England-based group formed in 1990, although their debut album did not appear until 2001. Renowned for their innovative, rich-textured sound, and outstanding arrangements, they are capable of both pounding anthems, and quiet, intricate melodies. The band worked with a succession of independent labels after it was initially dropped by Island Records following their take over by Universal. Finally signing with Fiction Records the band released its fourth album The Seldom Seen Kid. The album was a critical and commercial success and 2008 saw them begin to enjoy the wider recognition that they deserve. The album debuted at number 5 on the UK album charts and went on to win the Mercury Music Prize.
