Daniel Miguel Alves Gomes (born 7 August 1983), commonly known as Danny, is a Venezuelan-born Portuguese footballer who plays for FC Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Russian Premier League, as an attacking midfielder.
Born to Portuguese parents in Caracas, Venezuela, Danny moved to the island of Madeira at a young age. There, he would developed his football skills in the youth teams of C.S. Marítimo, making his breakthrough into the first team at the end of the 2001–02 season, scoring five goals in 20 games.
Having signed to Portuguese League powerhouse Sporting Clube de Portugal for €2.1 million after that sole season, Danny was immediately loaned back to Marítimo, returning in June 2004. On February 2005, after having appeared less than 20 official times for the Lions, he joined Russia's FC Dynamo Moscow, a club that was signing a large number of Portuguese and Portugal-based players at the time (namely Maniche and Derlei). He would eventually be the one with the most success in Russia, being awarded the best Dynamo player of the 2005 season.
