With a taste for complex rhythms and a tireless appetite for invention, Cobham has made a major and enduring impact on jazz and jazz-fusion and caught the attention of artists beyond those areas, many of whom have enlisted his services on their own albums, from Chaka Khan to Peter Gabriel. In 1969, the drummer co-founded the fusion group Dreams and was invited to join Miles Davis' group. Cobham contributed to four pivotal recordings by the legendary trumpeter, including Bitches Brew. The 70s and 80s saw Cobham in and out of every major record studio you care to mention, augmenting work for artists such as Jack Bruce and The Grateful Dead. In the 90s Cobham began his long association with the WOMAD Festival (World of Music, Arts and Dance). Cobham's 2008 album Fruit From The Loom is testament to his creative restlessness. 'I've always found it difficult to focus upon one direction in music,' Cobham said, explaining his decision to reprise two well-known 70s pieces, Spectrum and Crosswinds.
