Best Tom Petty Album On Earth

Petty should never be mentioned without his band The Heartbreakers. They are a real band in the truest sense, and Petty readily acknowledged their importance, even though his name carries them forward. Having played together for so many years with Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair and in the past with Stan Lynch and Howie Epstein and more recently the experienced drummer Steve Ferrone they are a magnificently well-oiled unit. Such a pedigree is hard to imagine; they are for many the world's most perfect rock band. Petty as a songwriter was a prolific master of the 'great middle 8', there is not a single one of his tracks without at least one glorious moment of chord or melody. His catalogue was immense and the list of Dylanesque-Byrdslike-uplifting-jingle-jangle moments would leave even Mr Zimmerman and Roger McGuinn open-mouthed. His death on October 2, 2017 left fans open-mouthed with shock. This was not meant to happen.
