1. Where do I start?

By searching for something you are interested in: a Film, a Band, a Game, your favourite Sport, Musician or Food. Alternatively browse our Categories. When you find a list you are interested in and it contains one of your favourite things, vote for it! Remember: A list is a list, but a 'thing' is an 'item' on your list. That way we really find out the Best Things On Earth.

2. How do I vote?

Just click on the yellow star. When you vote for a 'thing' in a BTOE list, your favourite Film, for example, you will begin to create your own 'Best Film' list. You can re-arrange and add other Films and share with your friends. Your votes will be added and they will contribute to the main BTOE Film list. The more you vote, the better BTOE becomes.

3. Can I vote more than once?

No, BTOE is a democratic site. You can vote for as many 'things' as you like on any list. When you make a 'new list' and PUBLISH it, your No.1 'thing' will get 10 votes, No.2 will get 9 votes and so on. Your votes are added to the main BTOE list.

4. How do I add a new 'thing' to a list?

If you 'Search within this list', and the 'thing' is not there, our search engine will invite you to add it: Are we missing something? Why not add a 'thing'?

5. How do I make a list?

Making your own version of a BTOE list

You can make your own version of a BTOE list simply by voting for your favourite things on that list. As you vote, BTOE will create your own special list, then you can move your selections around until you are happy with the order. So you have 'Johnny Smith's Best Film On Earth'. It is easy to make your own version of every list on BTOE. Click PUBLISH when you are happy with your list and want to let other people see it. Then you can send it to your friends on Facebook.

Making a list that is not already on BTOE

We are sure you are going to think of lots of lists that our Editors haven't thought of. You need to check first, so go to our search bar and enter the Name of the list. If you are the first person to have thought of that list, you will be invited to create it. Alternatively you can click on our Contribute a List icon and follow the steps there. Just make sure you haven't misspelt the name! Your new list will be added to your own 'Stuff' and becomes a BTOE list, so other people will be able to see your new BTOE list and vote on it. All you have to do is enter AT LEAST THREE 'things' on your list into the boxes. Remember: One 'thing' is not a list, two 'things' are dull, three or more makes it interesting. Some of our top Editors have 1,000 'things' in a single list!

After you have PUBLISHED you can come back at any time and add pictures and descriptions (see our Terms & Conditions).

6. Can other people see my list?

Yes. When you PUBLISH a list it will appear in 'Latest Activity' and in your own Profile. Anyone can look at your lists if you PUBLISH them, just like anyone can look at a book if you publish that too. You can publish as many lists as you like, and you can Share them with you friends by posting to Facebook or Twitter or one of our many Social Network Channels. Just click Share+ and invite your friends to comment. If your favourite 'things' are controversial you can start your own debate.

7. Can I make sure that only my friends see my list?

No. A PUBLISHED list is in the public domain and becomes part of BTOE, so once you publish your list anyone can see it, BTOE is a place where people publish their favourites for everyone else to see and comment on.

8. How do I delete a list I have made?

You can't delete a list you have PUBLISHED. You will have to REPORT it, and a BTOE Editor will take the appropriate action.

9. Can people vote for 'things' on my list?

No, people can only vote for 'things' on the BTOE list. This is because the BTOE list is the one where all the votes are counted. If people could vote for 'things' on your list, this would alter the order of the 'things' on your own list, and it would no longer be 'your list'. People can vote for the same 'things' you have voted for on the BTOE list, and they can make their own list, (Suzie Green's Best Film On Earth). Your list is unique to you and can only be changed by you.

10. How do I see other people's lists?

Go to any list you are interested in and at the top you will see a link to 'Contributors', you can see everyone's version of that list there.

Alternatively, if you have a friend on BTOE you can search for them and their lists using the main search bar.

11. Can I change my Account Details?

If you logged in with your Facebook or Twitter account, then you can't update your password. Otherwise, click on your name at the top of the page to view all your lists, votes and change your details there.

12. Can I add a picture to my Profile?

Yes, customising your Profile couldn't be easier. Simply click on your user name in the top right hand corner of the screen, or click My Account on the Home Page. Select 'Choose File' and upload an image from your computer. Make sure you don't use an image that infringes anyone else's copyright though (See our Terms & Conditions).

13. Can I edit the title of a list?

You can't edit a list you have PUBLISHED. You will have to REPORT it and a BTOE Editor will take the appropriate action.

14. How do I change the order of the 'things' in my list?

Just go to your list and if there is a 'thing' you want to move up or down, click and hold on the 'move' icon and drag your thing to where you want it to go.

15. Can I delete a 'thing' in my list?

Yes. You can delete any 'thing' from your list by clicking the 'vote' icon to 'unvote' the thing.

If you change your mind and wish to add the 'thing' again, simply put its name in the 'Add a new 'thing' to your contribution' box or go back to the BTOE list and vote for it again.

16. How do I let my friends know my list is there?

By sharing your list on your favourite Social Network. Simply click on 'My Contributions', select the List you want to Share with your friends and post to Facebook or Twitter or one of our many other social channels. If your friends have already made lists on BTOE they can find your contribution by searching for you there.

17. Can other people add 'things' to my list?

No. Only you can add 'things' to your list.

18. How do I find people who like the same 'things' I do?

Go to the list you are interested in and click on the blue Contributor's tab. There you will see all the Contributors who have voted or made their own version of that List.

19. How do I comment on a list?

Click on the Comments button above the items to toggle the display of all the comments there. We use Disqus for our comments, which requires a separate login in Disqus you can use.

20. How do I use Spotify on BTOE?

Thousands of our lists have Spotify playlists, which you can listen to if you have a Spotify account.

We have also built a special free Spotify app, which can be found in the Spotify Appfinder. Add this to your favourites and you will always be able to listen to the Best Music On Earth.

21. How do I link my lists to my Blog?

Post your link on your Blog, and your readers can click to see your lists.

22. Is BTOE selling something?

BTOE does not promote the interests of any particular Artist, Author or Game Developer. Our list rankings are entirely dependent on your votes. You can use BTOE to express your opinions about the stuff you love, whether it is a great album or the best pair of running shoes on earth. This is what makes BTOE a site people can trust. BTOE is truly democratic
